The coastal tram traffic was interrupted between Nieuwpoort and De Panne for an hour and a half after a traffic accident in Sint-Idesbald near Koksijde. A car that wanted to cross the tram tracks was grabbed by the coastal tram and ended up against a pole. Two people were injured, a person had to go to the hospital. « Our driver was very impressed, but nobody was injured in the tram, » says Frederik Wittock of De Lijn.

The traffic accident happened on Saturday just before 11 am. A Volvo driven by a 55-year-old man from Harelbeke, according to the West Coast police, first drove along the coastal tram on the Royal Baan in Sint-Idesbald and suddenly wanted to turn left before. He did not notice the upcoming coastal tram. The car was grabbed in the flank and ended up against a trampal. The two occupants of the Volvo were slightly injured, but only the passenger of the car had to go to the hospital due to pain in the ribs. « Our driver tried to brake, but a collision was inevitable, » says Frederik Wittock of De Lijn.

« The car was dragged for a while and was stuck against a trampal. No passengers were injured on the tram itself. Our driver was very impressed and was impressed. The technical team of De Lijn went on site to perform any repairs and see the tram. After the car was tackled in consultation with the police. » Both tracks were released around 12.20 and the tram traffic was resumed. (JHM)
