Capping allowed some to earn a lot of money
The ceiling of energy prices was excessive and allowed some to earn a lot of money, possibly legally, but immoral, unjustified in terms of opportunity, which is why the ceiling should not continue, said the President of the Competition Council, Bogdan Chirițoiu, at a specialized conference.
‘We (Competition Council, no), the fans of the ceiling have never been. I think it was excessive (…) I introduced it early-and it was good that I introduced it. But at the same time, the fact that he was capped for everyone, I think it was excessive – and there were certain problems in the market, who allowed some to make a lot of money, possibly legally. We also look if somehow violated the law during that period, but from the way the scheme was thought of were the possibilities of legal but immoral earnings, unjustified in terms of opportunity. So, I don’t think it has to continue, « said Bogdan Chirițoiu, at the Energy Forum, organized by Financial Intelligence.
According to him, large energy consuming companies also need support, not just the vulnerable population.
‘I understood that the minister says that a plan to protect the population is vulnerable, which is absolutely natural. I am glad that the minister also said that a plan for companies that are high energy consumers are also worked. Because here it seems to me that I didn’t think things very well. We went on the idea that the population protects it, we protect those who consume less, so we suspect they are poorer-and at companies we did about the same, which in companies, logic is different, so you have to protect those who consume a lot, not those who consume a little. So here I think things were not very well thought out. I hope we will have measures for the big companies consuming energy and electricity and gas’, said Bogdan Chirițoiu.
