Not far from the Wiener Ringstrasse, an Otto-Wagner-Wohnbau was built 140 years ago, into which a university bookstore recently moved in. The special thing: The U5 subway line is built directly below.
Already in 1887/88, Otto Wagner fits into a number of presentable houses that he realized as an architect and client in personnel union. They helped him to have a considerable wealth even before he became the famous Viennese Art Nouveau architect. Vertical « braces » as an eye -catcher

However, the house had no elevator. The braces were acquired by several owners in 1920, including the master hatter Georg Fischer. His hat business was run by his son Georg Ludwig Fischer from the 1970s to 1990 as a women’s and men’s fashion shop « Hut-Fischer ». Today the braces have 20 owners.
