The 39 -year -old senator was shot during a campaign event during his presidency candidacy in 2026. He is a member of the Conservative Democratic Center, founded by former Colombian president Alvaro Uribe. The two men are not relatives.
According to a statement by the party condemning the attack, the senator housed a campaign event on Saturday in a public park in the Fontibon neighborhood in the Capital, when « armed subjects shot him from behind ».
The party described the attack as serious, but did not reveal more details about Uribe’s condition. The videos on the social networks showed a man, identified as Uribe, being cared for after shooting. He seemed to bleed.
Uribe’s wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, wrote on her husband’s account on X that he « fight for her life ».
The Minister of Defense of Colombia, Pedro Sanchez, said that a suspect was arrested in the case of shootings and that the authorities are investigating if other people were involved. Sanchez said he visited the hospital where Uribe was treated.
