The American Agency for Food and Medicines (FDA) has approved a detection tool of cervical cancer, as an alternative to smears made in gynecology offices, the company that sells them on Friday.

Developed by the American Society Teal Health and launched in California since June, this automatic vaginal buffer will be available online for people between the ages of 25 and 65 who have an average risk of cervical cancer.

This disease targets about 0.6% of women worldwide.

Vaccination against human papillomavirus infection (PVH/HPV), responsible for most cervical cancers, and regular examinations are effective to prevent the disease, but more than one four is not regularly controlled.

« When we do more accessible care, we will help women stay in good health, for themselves and people who count on them every day, » Kara Egan, the general director of Teal Health, said in a statement.

The company did not reveal its prices, but said it is related to insurers to ensure that the product will be accessible.

Each kit contains instructions to be related to health professionals who can prescribe the test, interpret its results and guide users throughout the process.

The new tool allows the detection of stems with the highest risk of PVH/HPV.

A clinical test showed that its accuracy is comparable to those of the smears performed with a speculum and which are quite uncomfortable.

Most sexually active persons contract PVH/HPV during their lives, but only a small part of them develop cancer.
