BYD sells more cars in Europe for the first time than Tesla
BYD sold more electric vehicles in Europe for the first time than Tesla. This passes the car manufacturer past Elon Musk’s companies, which for a long time led the electric market on the continent.
According to the market researcher Jato Dynamics, China’s leading car manufacturers approved 7,231 new battery -electric vehicles in Europe in April. This is an increase of 169 percent compared to the previous year. This catapults BYD into the top 10 of the brands with the most frequently sold electric cars. Tesla, on the other hand, fell back for a place because the new registrations collapsed by 49 percent.
« Although the difference between the monthly sales figures of the two car brands may be low, the effects are enormous, » said Jato-Dynamics Analyst Felipe Munoz in a statement sent by email. « This is a turning point for the European automotive market. »
Despite the accelerated growth in the European e-car segment, Tesla remained in the minus. The approvals rose by 28 percent across the board, with market leaders Volkswagen sold 61 percent more battery -electric cars in April than in the previous year. The VW brand Skoda tripled its e-car registrations.
BYD sold even more vehicles than Tesla if you include the car manufacturer’s plug-in hybrid models. According to Jato, the total sales of the Chinese company rose by 359 percent.
