Medals are not taken for granted
“We not only follow tens of thousands of young people signed, but also connect thousands of mentors at all levels of education – from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools to faculties and institutes. They selflessly help to carry out various preparations for students and students who participate in domestic knowledge competitions, and the best of which are then achieved by enviable success at international Olympiads and young scientists. The medals and recognitions they regularly bring from these events are something for granted, but are the result of systematic, persistent and committed work, « they wrote, among others.
They wrote that it is difficult to accept the fact that it is not possible to claim reimbursement to promote competitions at the annual ceremony of awards to the best young individuals at Cankarjev dom and that there is no real title to finance preparation and participation in international competitions. They also repeated the findings of the Court of Audit of 2021, which at the time found that « the national strategy for working with the gifted is still not formed in the Republic of Slovenia, so the basic goals and importance of dealing with talented children and adolescents for the development of the state are not defined, incentives and measures for equal promotion of the talented development, additional sources of financing, uniform and constant monitoring of work with talented students. Coordination of treatment and support at work with talented students and students and a link between all stakeholders. «
Promoting interest in science and promoting science in young people help to form future generations of researchers, innovators and leaders who will be able to solve the world challenges and create a better future for everyone, they also warned in the letter.
