« By ending up in the same camp, the United States and Russia put Ukraine in a position of submission »-Liberation
On February 24, for the first time since the start of the Russian assault in 2022, the United States and Russia voted jointly two texts in the UN. For Ukrainians, it is a terrible way to mark three years of a war that continues.
THE UNITED STATES first voted against a first resolution of Ukraine and its European allies in the UN General Assembly. It was still adopted in the assembly by 93 votes for, 18 against, and 65 abstentions, out of a total of 193 member states. The Americans replied by submitting to the assembly another resolution which pleads to end the war as quickly as possible, but without referring to the territorial integrity of Ukraine. This text, modified by Europeans who restored the responsibility of Russia, was also adopted.
But the United States then submitted its original version to the vote of the UN Security Council, where all the amendments proposed by the members of the European Union and the United Kingdom were rejected. The resolution was adopted by 10 votes for, and no against. European countries have abstained, including France and the United Kingdom which nevertheless have a veto right.
