Buzatu’s whistleblower, testimony to court: « I complied with gossip »
Businessman Emil Savin, a complainant witness with real identity in the file in which Dumitru Buzatu is accused of taking bribes, was heard on Monday at the Vaslui Court, in a meeting that lasted about eight hours.
The businessman claimed before the court that it was notorious that Dumitru Buzatu, as president of the Vaslui County Council, charged 10% of the value of the contracts of works awarded to the builders, but stated that he did not know this, but that he heard such hypotheses ‘at the corner of the ditch’. He also mentioned that he did not know if this was true, because he heard it at the level of gossip and stated that he gave the bag with money to Dumitru Buzatu because he ‘deduced’ that he must proceed and not because Buzatu would have expressly asked him.
« I complied with the gossip I heard, » said Emil Savin.
Lawyer Christian Winzer said that by his statement the denouncer witness confirmed that Dumitru Buzatu did not ask him directly or indirectly undue amounts.
‘Today’s meeting was a first step to find out the truth about what happened in this file. The court set a new trial deadline on April 28.
In September 2023, Dumitru Buzatu was flagrantly caught by the anti -corruption prosecutors when he received 1.25 million lei as a bribe to favor a company to obtain a contract. The money was found by investigators in the trunk of his car, after the former president of the Vaslui County Council had received them in a restaurant from businessman Emil Savin.
