But are you in control of all the deductions?

Travel deduction

If you travel for your work and do not have the opportunity to spend the night at home, you can get a deduction for costs for food, lodging and small necessities.

The journey must last at least 24 hours and your employer must not cover the expenses.

The deduction can either be based on actual expenses if you have documentation, or on fixed rates, which are DKK 246 a day for lodging and DKK 574 for diet and small necessities.

Charity and donations

If you give money for charitable purposes, you can get a deduction for amounts up to DKK 18,300.

Many organizations automatically report donations to the Tax Agency, but it is always a good idea to check that the registered amount is voting.

If a donation has not been reported, contact the organization as it cannot be added manually in the annual statement.

Shares and investments

Most investments are automatically reported, but you should always check that the information is correct.

If you have had losses on your investments in 2024, they can be used to offset future gains.

Dividends are also taxed, but that amount is automatically contained, so the most important thing is to check that everything is in line with your information.

Housing tax

As something new in 2024, the housing tax will appear in the annual statement for homeowners.

The figures are reported by the Assessment Agency, but it is still your responsibility to check that there are no errors.

If you discover an error in the housing taxes registered in your annual statement, you must contact the Assessment Agency to get it fixed.

When do you get your money?

The annual statement can be corrected until May 1st, but if you have to pay residual tax, July 1 is an important date.

After this date, interest will be imposed on the residual tax.

If you have paid too much in tax, the payments will begin on April 25.

Last year, around DKK 25 billion was paid to the Danes.

By thoroughly checking your annual statement and ensuring that all deductions are properly registered, you can potentially save several thousand dollars.

Therefore, it is worthwhile to spend more than 63 seconds reviewing the numbers.
