Businessman Chris Morel, father of former politician Marie-Rose Morel, died at the age of 79

Christian Morel, businessman and father of former politician Marie-Rose Morel, died on Monday. He was 79 years old. This is evident on Friday from a death notice in the newspaper.
Morel made a name for himself in business as a director at the producer of telecommunication equipment Alcatel. He was best known for his experience in China: he became honorary citizen of Shanghai and Beijing and was honorary chairman of the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC).
Politician
The businessman was also active in Antwerp politics, first at the CVP (the current CD&V), later at the N-VA. He was former vice -chairman of the OCMW in Antwerp and of Hospital umbrella Zna. In the 2012 municipal elections, he still pushed the List of Bart De Wever.
Father of Marie-Rose
However, it was mainly daughter Marie-Rose Morel who made a name for himself in politics. She started her career at the N-VA but soon made the switch to the Vlaams Blok/Vlaams Belang. Marie-Rose Morel died in 2011, when she was 38, cancer.
Chris Morel and his wife had three children and five grandchildren. Two years after the death of Marie-Rose Morel, their son Christian Jr. also died of cancer at the age of 35. (BLG)
