Bus driver (with children on board) clashes and takes a positive breath test, the police caught him again hours later (inland)

On the intersection with the Grotesteenweg, a bus and a car collided on the Binnensingel at the intersection. « On the bus, children were on their way to school, » says Wouter Bruyns, spokesperson for the Antwerp police. « Fortunately, nobody was injured on the bus. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries. »

The bus driver took a positive breath test. « He blew 0.48 mg/l, which is well above the legal limit (which is lower for professional drivers than for other drivers). His driver’s license was immediately withdrawn for fifteen days due to the combination of the accident and alcohol intoxication. »

Motards from the Traffic Supervision Service came to the aid of the intervention team for checking the driving and rest times of the driver. Another driver had to pick up the bus.

The same afternoon the traffic police saw the bus running around the Binnensingel again. « The same driver was again behind the wheel, despite the newly imposed driving ban. The police immediately put the bus aside. The public prosecutor ordered to immobilize the bus because both the bus driver and his employer seem to have difficulty complying with the imposed driving ban, » said the police spokesperson.
