Build more and faster with new law

Vice -Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil places high expectations in the law on accelerating housing construction, which is to be approved this Wednesday in the Federal Cabinet. «This ensures that more and faster can be built. This helps against the lack of affordable living space, »said the SPD-The boss the partner newspapers of the new Berlin editorial company.

Living is one of the great social issues of our time, said Klingbeil about the design by Minister of Construction Verena Hubertz (SPD). « Young people can often no longer afford their own house today, and for some it is incredibly difficult to find an apartment for rent. »

The predecessor has failed goals

The SPD-led predecessor government had promised 400,000 new apartments in Germany each year, but never achieved the goal. There were more than 215,000 building permits last year.

Housing in Germany is, among other things, in the face of high construction costs and increased interest rates in the crisis. At the same time, specialists in the construction industry are missing.

In order for more and faster to be built, some regulations would also have to go away, Klingbeil continued. Hubertz presented a good legislative package. « As a finance minister, I support it by significantly increasing investments in the construction of apartments. »

With the so-called “construction turbo”, the municipalities should be given the opportunity to tighten approval procedures by deviating from development plans. « This can be built, compressed or increased faster, » explains the Ministry of the Construction. Rental apartments should also continue to be underrusted under protection against conversion.
