« Buddik Banlieue »: Street food meets star kitchen
Hungry Street food fans have been found at Karl-Marx-Straße 27 in Trier since 2021 the « Buddik Banlieue ». The name is the program, because the shop is not in the middle of the city center, but a little outside towards the ancient Roman bridge. A Schlenker is worthwhile, because there is not fries or burger here, but street food at another level. The special thing: the cook has in Sternal restaurant « Beckers » in Trier-Olewig learned.
When we enter the « Buddik », we notice the open kitchen and the surprisingly small dining room, which only offers space for a handful of people and looks a little together and tinkered with the facility, but still looks coherent. However, our choice falls on the idyllic garden behind it. There are other seats here that invite you to chill, especially in summer.
The menu, which is renewed at regular intervals, comes in a new cool design every time. Photo: Marvin push
But stop before we can sit down at the entrance. There is no fixed menu here, but a card with five to six dishes changing at regular intervals. There is something for everyone here, whether meat, fish, hearty or sweet. At least one vegan option is always there. As soon as the menu is changed, there is on Mondays on Instagram the announcement with the new cardthat applies from Tuesdays. Because on Mondays the « Buddik » remains!
Full plate, full of taste
We chose three of the five dishes. Spoiler in advance: All three are a taste explosion. First there is the Asian red cabbage glass noodle salad (14.50 euros), which is actually the vegan option on the map. If that’s not enough, you can order Tempura shrimp for 2.50 euros. I get a large plate with crispy in tempura dough fried vegetables and shrimp, including the actual salad, in which the red cabbage also colored the glass noodles. Above it is a mixture of peanuts, teryaki sauce, sesame and many other flavors. What seems overloading at first glance melts into a round thing in the mouth at the latest.
The second dish of our order are the Crispy Buddik-Chicken-Stripes (16 euros) and go a little more towards classic fast food. The chicken pieces are crispy fried and juicy on the inside. They taste like garlic chili butter on the outside, there are also wedges and sour cream. The whole thing, of course, in a solid portion size for everyone who has a little more hungry.
« Bo Zai Fan » brings a cozy note to Chinese cuisine
Last but not least the third gear of our order: delicately braised beef on creamy mac’n’cheese with pimples (16.50 euros). A dish for purists who gets along without much frills. The American -inspired pasta dish comes up creamy and is garnished with the topping from beef. In the implementation, it tastes very much like well -made home cooking. The pickled radishes on top are the biggest experiment. All in all a delicious dish for everyone who doesn’t want too much taste explosion.
Especially in summer, the beautiful garden behind the « Buddik » invites you to linger and enjoy. Photo: Marvin push
Actually, we wanted to round off our visit with the sweet dumplings (7.50 euros), but the portions were so extensive that even if the will was there, nobody would have done a dessert anymore.
« Ideal to take away »
If you are too full of the « Buddik », too uncomfortable or too cold in the garden, you don’t have to do without the delicious food. Because as it already says on the menu, all dishes are « ideal to take away ». The opening times are a shortcoming. Usually these are from Tuesday to Saturday from 12 noon to 6 p.m., but sometimes only until the shop is “sold out”. However, it can also happen that the operators do not take the opening times so precisely and just open an hour later.
This is what happened during our visit. We were there at 12 noon, but were put off with a small note on the door that it only starts at 1 p.m. official Instagram account informed. But for everyone who may be able to wait an hour longer, the « Buddik Banlieu » is definitely one of the culinary highlights in Trier. It’s worth it!
