Brutal crimes and mass hunger: will Sudan split
Due to the uninviting fighting, the judgments of the number of victims are difficult. According to the latest data from international humanitarian organizations, they are about 150,000. Women and girls are especially affected by the war. They are exposed to mass sexual assaults and group rapes.
A dispute between the two generals
Currently, the Sudan National Army has been commemorating territorial successes – it has managed to regain Khartoum. However, the leader of the paramilitary militia is not considered defeated. « We will go back to Khartoum stronger, more decisive and ready to win. The war has not yet gone away-it has just begun. » Dagalo said there would be no negotiations. « We will only talk to a weapon. »
Terrifying crimes
Dagalo and his « Rapid Response Forces » keep the western region of Darfur under control. There, they have occupied many refugee camps, where the civilian population is dying of hunger and constant firing, as is clear from the shaking testimonies of eyewitnesses, international auxiliary organizations and the UN.
Mohammed, whose house in Khartoum has been destroyed and robbed, says: « They destroyed everything and took everything. This war is not a war against the government, but against the population, it is a pure destruction. »
A danger of a new division
« We are horrified by the out -of -court shootings of civilian citizens, » said UN spokesman for human rights Seif Magango. There were ominous videos that show how civilian citizens were killed coolly – because they allegedly cooperated with paramilitary militias.
Opposition militias make efforts to create a contrast in their controlled parts of the country. According to political scientists, the split between the center of the country and the periphery, ethnicities, religions and tribes has become even deeper.
Weapons from abroad?
The Sudanese army relies on the political and military support of Egypt and Qatar. It is believed that « Rapid Response Forces » are supported by weapons supplies from the United Arab Emirates through neighboring Chad. The Emirates reject these claims, although there is evidence of the opposite.
The country’s economy is about to decay. The established Civil National Emergency Network assists with information on evacuation, medical care and can only meet some of the most intimate needs.
International assistance is increasingly
And international aid is diminishing. As the UN noted – only 6.3 percent have received $ 4.2 billion in humanitarian aid this year. The situation was exacerbated by the recent US decision to shorten foreign care costs. In 2024, US funds guaranteed half of all humanitarian aid for Sudan.
Sudan has many underground resources such as gold and oil, and there are fertile lands where agriculture can develop. But « the crisis created by the people » has not passed at all, says Eden Vosorno of the Bureau of Coordination of Humanitarian Aid to the UN. « The country continues to be in a humanitarian crisis with a shaking scale. »
