The European Union has decided to secure hundreds of millions of euros to strengthen university freedom and attract professors and scientists around the world, especially from the United States, where the « drain » outflow has begun over the suppression of freedom of education and science by the government in Washington, French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Emanuel Eurosers.

The message from the conference under the motto « Choose Europe for Science » is that « Europe is determined to put education and science in the heart of its economy, become a home for scientific freedom and cooperation and to welcome talents around the world. »

Macron said the government in Paris had set aside 200m euros for favorable conditions for residence and work of foreign scientists, researchers and professors.

The European Commission chief, meanwhile, noted that the EU provided 500m euros for the period 2025-2027 to « support the best and smartest researchers and scientists from Europe and around the world ».

Addressing US scientists and professors who have decided to come to the EU, Ursula von der Leyen said the Union is determined to become the center of attracting brains around the world.

« In the medium and long term, along with its member states, the EU wants to reach three percent of GDP for investment and development investment by 2030, » said von de Leyen.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) plans a strong financial injection into the European technology sector and will set aside 70 billion euros for technology companies and scientists, writes the German daily Handelsblatt.

The goal is to reduce Europe’s lag behind the United States in the sector, and by 2027, 70 billion will be made available to promising startups. The goal of the EIB is to mobilize additional investments from the private and public sectors.

Thanks to this, the amount of such investments could increase to 250 billion euros.
