The Chairwoman of the 45th, French -speaking, Chamber of the Brussels Correctional Court postponed a series of detainees on Monday from their own initiative when it turned out that those prisoners had not yet been transferred to the courthouse at 9 am. The action is part of the protests that are conducted by various magistrate corps against the plans of the federal government around the magistrate pensions.
At the start of the session, the chairwoman also decided that she would end her seat on noon and afterwards would no longer treat files. The sessions of the 45th Chamber, which will start at 8.45 am, often end up to a piece in the afternoon because of the large number of files that the Brussels correctional court must deal with.
According to the judge, her decisions were a response to the decades of under -financing of the judiciary and the plans of the federal government around the magistrate pensions. In recent weeks, there has been a lot of dissatisfaction from the magistrate about the pension reforms announced by the federal government, and actions have already been announced and held from different angles.
Within the judiciary, a fear of purchasing power loss of 30 to 40 percent for magistrates is retired if all measures from the coalition agreement, the policy statement and the Easter agreement are added together. In concrete terms, it is about the limited indexation of pensions above 5,250 euros gross, the lack of transitional measures and the fact that from 2027 you must have been appointed before the 27th and you must have bought up your study years to build a full pension.
Those measures are considered by the judiciary as a lack of respect because of the executive power for the judiciary.
