Yves Rotty, the chief of police of the Bruges police zone, died unexpectedly at the age of 56. That news is confirmed by press spokeswoman Lien Depoorter and mayor Dirk De Fauw (CD&V). « He was not the husband of many words but was a very human police chief with whom I had a perfect collaboration, » responds the mayor.

Yves Rotty was found lifeless on Wednesday evening 28 May in his home in Bruges. The 56-year-old police chief died as a result of medical reasons and leaves a daughter. He was working as a chief of police for almost two years. « We wish his daughter, family, friends and all colleagues a lot of strength in this sudden death, » responds press spokeswoman from the Lien Depoorter police.

Man of few words

Mayor Dirk De Fauw is also deeply saddened by the news. « The far too early and unexpected death of chief of police Yves Rotty has hit me, the full corps, the ship’s college and the city council of Bruges Diep, » says Mayor De Fauw. « Yves was for almost two years. For him this position was his dream, his life. I was able to count on Yves day and night. He was not the man of many words but was a very human police chief with whom I had a perfect collaboration. I but many with me will miss Yves very much. »
