Exciting news for beer fans: Westmalle will launch a new blond beer from March: Westmalle Duo. It contains 7.2 percent alcohol and will only be available in barrel, not in bottles. The Tripel, double and extra get a blond brother from 't Vat.

This new beer of high fermentation is a blend of Westmalle Tripel and Westmalle Extra. The result is a thirst quencher with a sturdy body and a fruity aroma. The first barrel will be hit on March 3 in café Trappists near the abbey. The further distribution into catering businesses follows, depending on logistics.

Hospitality entrepreneurs have been asking the brewery for a long time for a blonde Trappist from 't Vat. By combining the fresh, thirst -quenching character of the extra with the full taste of the Tripel, Westmalle Duo got a taste profile that comes into its own in the vessel. The blend of two beers was preferred on a separate recipe for a blond beer because the preparation showed that such a more complex taste structure was created. An important feature for all Westmall beers.

Westmalle Duo is one Limited Edition Because of the production cycle of the extra. This is because it is brewed less frequently than the Tripel. Of the Westmalle Duo, only 5,000 barrels of 20 liters will be filled, intended for the Belgian, Dutch, French, British and Italian market. The Tripel is 9.5 percent alcohol, the extra 4.8 percent, the new duo is there at 7.2 percent so nice in between.
