A man in Great Britain was wrongly in prison for 38 years. The man had been convicted of murdering a young woman in the 1980s – but now an appellate court raised the decision, as the British news agency reported. The reason for this is DNA samples that do not match.
According to British media, it is a judicial error of historical extent. The 68-year-old had previously tried to let the conviction remove.
Kellnerin found dead in 1986
In the summer of 1986, a young waitress was found dead in Leverpool, Bübington in English. The suspect was then arrested and convicted in November 1987.
However, a commission to check criminal matters has now noted that DNA samples from the crime scene do not fit the man’s rehearsals. In view of the evidence, it is impossible to consider the conviction as safe, said a judge, according to PA.

Her client had spent almost 40 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, said the man’s lawyer. « Today, justice was done and the conviction was lifted. »
She also read a man’s statement. « I’m not angry, I’m not bitter, » said PA. He just wanted to return to his loved ones and his family, « to make the best of what I still have in this world of my existence.
It is unclear who killed the 21-year-old woman at the time. Her thoughts are with the family and the friends of the murdered woman, an investigator said. « We will do everything in our power to find the one who belongs to the DNA that was found at the scene. » (APA/dpa)
