British police have arrested eight suspects for terrorist activities
The British Anti -Terrorism Service has arrested a total of eight men, including seven Iranian nationals, in separate raids, London police said.
The BBC reports that eight men were arrested in two separate police investigations to combat terrorism and that, according to a police statement, five of them were arrested at various locations in England as part of a « previously planned » investigation into a « attack on certain premises ».
Five men have been arrested, four of whom are Iranian nationals, while the nationality of the fifth has not been discovered, and have been arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts and planning an attack on a particular facility, agencies said.
In a special operation the same day, three Iranian nationals were arrested in London as part of a second investigation into the fight against terrorism, London police said.
The three arrested men, between the ages of 39 and 55, remain in custody while searches of three reported addresses.
Police said the investigation was not linked to the previous arrests of five men, but did not reveal details of the alleged terrorist plot, citing operational reasons.
– The arrests were made in London, Swindon and the wider Manchester area and are linked to suspicion of possible planning attack on a particular facility. Men, between the ages of 29 and 46, have been arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act and will be held in custody, « the London police said in a statement.
