Britain intends to swim the ring around Iceland
Ross Edgley, a 39 -year -old swimmer from the UK, intends to swim the 1,600 km ring around Iceland. There has been a lot of preparation for the project and will leave on Friday. The channel is expected to take from three months to five.
Edgley has been swimming from a young age and also played long water games. However, he says he realized early on that he did not have the height in that sport and subsequently moved to the sea.
« That’s where the height is not as important, but rather how stubborn and determined you are, » he says in a conversation with journalist mbl.is.
Good preparation is necessary
In the past few months has Edgley Strong with the preparation of the swim with a special diet and training plan. Every day, he contains around 10,000 calories as well as swimming for up to 12 hours a day. Edgley has gained weight by almost 15 kilos since the preparation began and says the goal is to gain weight as much as possible but at the same time stay in good shape.
In recent months he has been training in Scotland and in February he came here to the country and swam in the Westfjords.
« I came here in February and started practicing them. Then it was winter and it was incredibly cold but I got to see the Northern Lights and it was great, » says Edgley gladly in taste.
The hardest challenge so far
Edgley Has previously undertaken a difficult task in the channel as when he swam the ring around Stóra-Bretland in 2018. The channel around Iceland, however, says he is the hardest challenge so far.
The project could take up from three months to five but Edgley Says it is all in the hands of the weather.
« There could be a storm, a great wave or wind and then you simply can’t get ahead so I just have to hope it will be good weather ».

What does a typical day look like in the trip?
« You swim with the waves for six hours and then the direction of them changes and then you go into the boat to eat and sleep. Then the direction changes again and then you have to jump into, no matter if it is two night or two for a day, you have to swim when the waves are working with you.
On the boat there will be all the necessities that Edgley will require eight crew along with eight crew.
He says the goal is to sail as much as possible to have the least negative impact on the environment, which is why it is important that there are so many working on the boat in order to exchange.

« It’s been a year since I decided to run this and start exercises, but it’s been over five years since I got the idea. Asgard and I was immediately fascinated by this. «
