Bright and cheerful / day
Where is the idea of the Holi festival, and why did you decide to have one in Latvia?
Historically, this celebration in the spring takes place in India, where it has spread around the world – it is not our patented or invented event. And we are not the first to think that such an event should be held in Latvia – I know that there were rehearsals ten years ago, while in Jurmala several years ago Holi Color Race. However, some time ago, the EU and Walt Tenter, with whom we had organized various other events, we thought we wanted to organize the Electronic Music Festival. We also realized that this genre of music in Latvia is not so popular yet, so we had to start with something slightly known. In our opinion, Holi The concept of the festival elsewhere in the world is quite good, as it does not emphasize the musicians, but that the colors are in color is bright and fun. At the two previous festivals in Wondersala and Lucavsala, we noticed that the Rigans do not like the colors as crazy as India, but this process is fascinated by many, and we have also captured it in the videos of both previous festivals.
I just wanted to ask – how does Latvians perceive it all with their mentality?
The Latvians who come are prepared for the fact that they will have to work with colors and other activities offered. True, we did not think that our event would be attended by so many young people – even minors and school age – because we thought we were interested in the audience 18+. But now we have become quite youthful. (Laughs.)
While attending music festivals elsewhere in the world, I have noticed that there are mainly people between the ages of 30 and 50, and seventy -year -olds have also met. Returning to our event – people seem to have accepted it and they like to have fun. As before, tossing with color or color fireworks will be the key, but there will be other types of attractions. And, of course, music – music!
Do you put an emphasis on home -made musicians or guests in choosing artists?
Every year we try to offer something else so as not to happen again. This year there will be two stages at the festival. On one of the fins, Denis Stepanov, a group First coursewhich is not so much in demand among young people, but more in adult audiences and was invited by my mom; There will also be a group Yut. But this year’s special guest will be Indian singer Bambi Beins, an artist with an outstanding voice from London, who promises uplifting rhythms and is looking forward to seeing how to see how Holi Festival happens elsewhere in the world. There will also be several DJs: Latvia will be represented by Maija Rozīte, Sach and Daphne will arrive from London, and DJ Jstaaf from Stockholm. So, a very international composition.
What is the most sincere or perhaps most unusual episode you remember from previous festivals?
The most touching episode could be from the time when twelve and thirteen -year -old youth crowds gathered at the stage and cried out with tears in the eyes, « Prusax, Prusax! » They were truly moved that we shared the color sachets for free because it turned out that they couldn’t afford to buy them. The young people then said it was the best day in their lives.
So the festival is for the whole family?
Yes, our concept is that it is really an event for the whole family, because fun will be for children, parents and everyone will find something for themselves, including a foam party. I remember a charming episode from last year’s festival when one mom fought desperately with both of her children, trying to get them out of the foam. As soon as she brought one child who was wet and foamy all over, the other brother was already running back at the attraction, and for at least twenty minutes … It was an endless jampady! (Laughs.)
There will be no shortage of suitable for the festival – just like similar festivals around the world, there will be sugar wool, bubbled, popcorn, burgers…
What do you think this event is made special – music, attractions, maybe something else?
The festival was attended by five thousand people in the first year, and eleven thousand last year. This year we are planning to be similar, although it is difficult to predict, because Latvians are very sensitive to the weather and buy tickets for such events at the last minute – unlike tickets to the theater. (Smiles.)
But what are we special? With the most colorful and fun summer festival where people can come and have fun. Of course, we, the organizers, are also engaged in activities – with a cannon firing color from the stage and the like.
If you had to choose the color to start this year’s festival, it would be…
I would probably take a bright pink or mad because it is the brightest of all the colors and, in my opinion, is very suitable for this event and its atmosphere.
