A decision to ban the import of chicken meat from Brazil due to bird flu has been adopted, the Director of the Food and Veterinary Agency (CAA) Oliver Milanov confirmed today. The solution, as he pointed out, is already in force.

Milanov also recalled that five days ago, to prevent the possibility of spreading plague in small ruminants (PPR), the CAA adopted a decision to ban imports and transit of live domestic and wild small ruminants, seeds, eggs and embroons from domestic and wild small ruminants, home -made meats, Small ruminants, as well as by -products of domestic and wild small ruminants from Albania where, in the Debar area, the Castriot, a 200 goats farm there was a new hotspot of illness following the report of the first case in the Shkodra area.

So far, the director informs, in the framework of the controls the CAA has carried out with the police, the smuggling of live animals has been discovered.

-For five days we have made a decision to ban imports from Albania over the plague of small ruminants. Police, the army, all veterinary companies and official veterinarians who must be cautious are alerted. Last year’s illness had in Greece, about 16,000 heads were destroyed in one day, but we managed to not allow us to appear here, the director said.

Answering journalist questions before the debate on raising public awareness of food safety, Milanov noted that the CAA is being leaked with inspectors.

-At present we have 186 inspectors. Some of the advertisements have already been completed in the CAA, but we will have more ads by the end of the year. The number of another 50 inspectors has been outlined-Milanov said.

Regarding the food we consume, he once again stressed that he was safe and announced intensified controls due to summer, especially in tourist sites.

-In the world and no one can guarantee that we eat safe food. Citizens are eating safe food, now the number of tourists and transit has increased, and the agency is also undergoing extraordinary surveillance. Period’s emphasis will be placed in tourist places such as Struga, Ohrid, Prespa, Dojran,… – said Milanov.

In connection with the spent deadline, they have, above all, the food operators who must respect the legal and bylaws.
