Boy escaped from SIS in Gothenburg – Personnel is investigated

Two people are suspected of crime after an escape last Wednesday from the SIS home in Bergsjön, where a minor boy managed to get out and disappear from the locked and fenced area.

One is the boy, who according to Prosecutor Fredrik Berglund has been served on suspicion of grossly unlawful coercion. The other is an employee at home, who has been arrested for a few days suspected of promoting escape.

– I can confirm that we had an escape on March 26, but I cannot comment on the circumstances because an investigation is underway, says Department of Institutional Catharina Högberg.

Two years ago was just Bergsjön the place of one of the – then many – rewritten escapes from SIS. Two 14-year-old boys, suspected of shooting in Stockholm, took over the fence and ran out into the forest. Since then, the so-called razor blade thread is in rolls at the top of the fence around the SIS home and no escape has taken place from there, until now.

Overall, direct ruts have decreased sharply from SIS. In 2020, more than 200 departed from the institutions’ areas around the country, last year it was 45. Just Bergsjön has had zero for two years,

The boy who escaped last week is now back in the outpatient care.

– Yes, he is back in SIS with the help of the police, says Catharina Högberg.

What did he do while he was out?

– I don’t know.

Anyone who was arrested on suspicion of promoting escape is released, but all suspicions remain in the case and the investigation continues. According to the prosecutor, new interrogations must be held with both the staff and the boy. What he calls « technical traffic », ie SMS and other messages, should also be reviewed.
