Botox and cortisone took Linn Gestblom back to the gang
Linn Gestblom’s left Axel has been a source of concern for several years. Then add headaches, and other neurological disorders.
She has been operated twice (2023 and 2024) and has undergone a variety of investigations. A setback after the last shoulder operation made her cancel the whole last season. But when the biathlon team started in the week in earnest, with an Olympic leader in Crete, the 30-year-old is in the gang again.
– It is nice to feel that it is moving forward, I may not be fully exercising but still be part of some, she says when DN meets her in a training door.
What can you do and what can you not do?
– I can really do everything but not quite as much as I had wanted. I can go roller skiing, I’ve been running on rollers, I’ve been here, but I also have to be a little smart in saving on the shoulder, putting rehab.
On the track record is Among other things, Olympic gold in relay 2022 and double individual World Cup medals in 2023. When she now aims at the 2026 Olympics, it is after double special treatments.
– We put Botox in the neck muscles Because it has become too tense (out towards the shoulder) and squeezes the nerves. I haven’t really got the connection out in the shoulder, it was like you pulled out of the contact, says the biathlete.
– Since also cortisone in the neck, it has had a very good effect. There was a swelling there that I have now had to shrink.
After the cortisone treatment at the end of March, the turn came, she says.
– Then I felt it was starting to answer.
– I have got rid of the headaches and other symptoms that I have been training for many days.
How has the past year been?
– Tough, I can still say.
– There has been a lot of waiting for results, treatment and effect. It’s been pretty much waiting and see.
Linn Gestblom is silent for a second, but then laughs big:
– Then I realized that there is a lot of biathlon competitions on TV! I haven’t had time to do anything else!
