Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik says he will ask Russia « Security Support »
Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomes the leader of the Bosnian Serbs, Milorad Dodik, in front of a military parade on the day of Victory, in Moscow, Russia, May 9, 2025.
Bosnian Serbs leader Milorad Dodik said Saturday will demand from Russia « some kind of security for security », after holding four meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the last two days in Moscow.
Dodik said he was assured by Putin that they will « remain in touch for all issues of the common agreements », and that « everything that spoke about joint activities, Putin said: ‘We will do it’.
« What we want to offer and demand from Russia in the coming period is a number of issues that can be described as a kind of security support, not to mention Russia’s guarantees for our political and territorial position, and we mainly derive from the fact that Russia is the guarantee of the Dayton Agreement, » Dodik told Moscow by Bosnia.
In an interview with Radio Television of Republika Srpska (RTRS), the SRNA agency and alternative television (ATV), he emphasized that Russia « undoubtedly supports the attitude of that agreement, but not others, such as France, which is doing everything to degrade it. »
Dodik met with Putin on April 1, when he traveled to Moscow and returned to Republika Srpska, avoiding the arrest, although the Bosnian court of Herzegovina issued a national arrest warrant, charging him with violating Bosnia’s constitutional order.
Dodik has so far avoided arrest within Bosnia, despite the country having 16 police agencies who have the power to arrest him.
The leaders of the Republika Srpska, in particular President Dodik, are criticized by Western governments for making efforts to separate the Serbian entity from Bosnia.
A few days ago, the Bosnian High Representative, Christian Schmidt, presenting the six-month report to the UN Security Council on the situation in Bosnia, stressed that the country is in a « political but not security crisis », and that « there is no risk to war ».
However, he stressed that the situation in relation to the Dayton Agreement has never been worse and that it all started after the first instance judgment against Dodik, which was used by the authorities of the Republika Srpska as an excuse for « de facto secession », including the initiative to draft a new constitution for Serbian entity.
Meanwhile, Dodik was among the dozens of world leaders who participated in the celebrations of Victory Day in World War II in Moscow.
In addition to Dodik, the only European leaders who participated were Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Putin and Vucic held a bilateral meeting, in which Putin estimated that « Russian-Serbian dialogue is constantly developing » and that the leaderships of both countries are in « regular contact ».
The bilateral meeting between Putin and Vucic in Moscow was the first official meeting that Russia began the full occupation of Ukraine in 2022.
The parade in Moscow was convicted by Western countries, which called it « propaganda », with which Putin is trying to justify aggression against Ukraine.
