Flooding in Limburg after a thunderstorm.

The Maasmechelen fire brigade of the East Limburg assistance zone was pulled out on Saturday evening for fallen trees in Eisden-garden district in Maasmechelen, a consequence of the heavy thunderstorms. Around 9.30 pm an oak tree ended up on a passenger car on Koniginnelaan, which was parked along the roadway. An oak tree has also been partly killed on Natiënlaan.

There were no injuries. The bodywork of the car on the Koninginnelaan is damaged. The two riding compartments were blocked. The local police Lanaken-Maasmechelen closed the road during clean-up work. A party tent also ended up on a bus shelter in the same street.

On Natiënlaan the ladder car had to offer assistance because a thick branch was split and threatened to fall down. The fire brigade was able to remove the dangerous branch with the ladder car.

The thunderstorms were accompanied by bright rain and heavy gusts of wind. Various streets were blank in no time, because the slokkers were not processed the abundant rainwater.

In Eisden-Tuinwijk, streets were flooded, such as the Eikenlaan and Guillaume Lambertlaan. The fire brigade came to clean everything up. The Riemsterweg and Noppenstraat in Bilzen-Hoeselt, among others, were also blank because of the rain.

Also on the E314 it was to be careful for the traffic coming from Genk, because most cars had temporarily put themselves on the breakdown strip during the rain showers because the vision was seriously impeded.
