Bolojan, at the « Volunteer Coalition » for Ukraine
Interim president Ilie Bolojan will participate on Saturday, in video conferencing regime, at the Summit of the ‘Coalition of the Willing), which takes place in Kiev, informs the Presidential Administration.
Ukraine will host a meeting of leaders in the countries of the so-called ‘coalition’ coalition ‘willing to offer him security guarantees by participating in a peacekeeping force in the event of a peace agreement with Russia, the Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski announced on Friday.
« We need this coalition, and it must be strong enough to guarantee the Security according to our common vision, » Zelenski said in a video message, without specifying the leaders who will attend the meeting.
The Ukrainian president insists that his country adhere to NATO, an idea excluded by US President Donald Trump. In these circumstances, with the particular support of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, Zelenski tries to obtain as a security guarantee a contingent of foreign troops in Ukraine, if he reached a peace agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
France and the United Kingdom have pushed the idea of setting up a coalition of ‘voluntary’ countries to participate in such a force with troops or other types of contributions. Several summits to which this topic was addressed have already taken place, without announcing so far any concrete decision.
Russia has already transmitted several times that it is opposed to the Ukrainian territory of some NATO or EU countries of Ukraine and would like to provide it with a form of security guarantee. Moscow describes such an action as ‘totally unacceptable’ and warned that it will consider the countries participating in this force as being involved in a ‘direct armed conflict’ with Russia.
