Bohinj mayor Monika Ravnik provided her daughter -in -law public funds
The Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (CCP) found that the mayor of Bohinj municipality Monika Ravnikwho actively participated in the public tender, in which the funding was obtained by her daughter -in -law, violated the Integrity and Prevention of Corruption Act. Monika Ravnik received a fine and a reminder.
The CCP introduced the procedure in August 2024 on the basis of a report that contained allegations of possible contradictions of interest. The mayor of the municipality of Bohinj was in the commission that decided in public tenders regarding the financing of local agriculture, to which it applied and obtained the funds of her daughter -in -law.
The CCP confirmed the allegations. As they wrote, Monika Ravnik found herself contrary to interests, because despite the knowledge that her daughter -in -law applied for the public tender, she continued to work and thus actively participated in the financial asset process.
It follows from the minutes that Monika Ravnik has been formally eliminated from the procedure, but the rest of the documentation demonstrates its active role and participation in deciding on the award of funds (voting for the allocation of funds, signing documents). The Commission points out that the official must also actually and fully exclude themselves from the decision or influence on the treatment of specific matters. Since Monika Ravnik did not even do so in writing of the mayor of the existence of conflicts of interest, she violated the provisions of the ZIntpk.
In the specific case, the private interest of a civil servant – in the form of gaining benefits for her daughter -in -law – was intertwined by performing her function, the CCP wrote. « Such behavior undermines the integrity of public function and reduces people’s confidence in the work of public institutions based on democratic values, transparency, equality and impartiality in deciding on public affairs and managing public funds, » they report.
