BMW Art Cars in Danubian: Famous artists have painted cars
Works can be admired by people around the world.
As part of the world tour to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the artists decorated with BMW, visitors to the Danubiana Gallery may watch some cars from an interesting collection.
Abstraction, minimalism, pop-art or magical realism. All these artistic directions have materialized on the body of the legendary BMW. The idea of combining Motorport with art came up with a French racer and auctioneer Hervé Poulain.
« Artists have been fascinated by cars since their invention. Poulain noticed this connection and painted cars of various authors shone directly on the legendary endurance race of 24 hours Le Mans. This time three other cars from the Art Cars collection came to Slovakia, which is taken care of by the BMW Museum in Munich. Other pieces have been introduced or only introduced in other countries of the world, such as Taij-Pay, Zurich and Hague, in the annual tour.
Three cars and one weekend
On the last weekend of May, you can see three art cars together in Danubiana.
The first visitors welcomes the BMW 3.0 CSL, which in 1976 as the second car from the collection was modified by American painter Frank Stella. His minimalist proposal found inspiration in a distorted millimeter paper. Walter Maurer, the legendary champion of BMW, then transferred the work to the body.
A much more varied work is the seventh car collection, namely the BMW M3, which in the year 1989 He was painted by Australian artist Michael Jagamara Nelson. He incorporated the motives of the natives and his dreams into his work. The work formed a week and an interesting contrast creates the fact that the car was originally in black painting.
In the 1980s, not only racing but also series BMW began to appear in the collection, which is also the case of the ninth car from the collection. It is BMW 535i (E34) from 1990. Japanese Artist Matazo Kayama liked to try new technologies, and in this case, these are airbrush colors combined with a special foil printing process. A car with a lot of glitters looks oriental.
Meanwhile, the last twenty car from the collection was created last year. Its author is American artist Julie Mehretu, who wondered what the picture would look like if the car passed through the car. In this case, she turned into a work of art by the BMW Mbrid V8 racing special, which symbolically returned to the beginning of the collection and shone at the endurance race of 24 hours Le Mans.
