« Mike Kelley: Ghost and Spirit »

Modern Museum Tom 12/10

American Mike Kelley has been called « The Dad of Junk Aesthetics » and was particularly noticed for his works by worn stuffed animals in the 90s-when the Modern Museum was forced to reverse a swindler retrospective. Now 30 years later, when the artist has been dead for a long time, Swedish audiences will meet his messy, fun and challenging art with roots in punk, Californian subculture. In parallel, the Museet shows Lap-see Lams lost and at the same time in-depth version of the multimedia installation at the Venice Biennale 2024.

« Yael Bartana: Farewell »

Cecilia Hillström Gallery Tom 19/6

In Germany’s pavilion at the latest Venice Biennale, Yael Bartana showed two film works, now at Cecilia Hillström Gallery in partially revised form. Weird « Farewell » contains ritual dance scenes with references to the purity of the early 20th century, as well as a Jewish-Christian Messian story. At the end, a spaceship leaves a earthly disaster and in a connecting VR plant, the viewer inside this science fiction craft is in search of a fresh start. Utopia, dystopia and mystery in one.

« Ulrika Sparre: Golden Monolith »

Gallery Flach Tom 14/6

Ulrika Sparre just managed to complete an exhibition at Galleri Flach, before his far too early departure. New drawings, photos and sculptures are all linked to the movie « Ear to the ground (Golden Monolith & Black Monolith) », the third and final part of a triptych. Here she enters a dialogue with artist Alberto GiaCometti and explores his childhood memories of inspired stone formations next to the Swiss Bergsbyn Stampa. A deeply existential, sensitive and cleared design.

“Mandy El-Sayegh and Alice Walter: Xxx Kiss Kross Kill ”

Kummelholmen Tom 15/6

In Kummelholmen’s old boiler center, Mandy El-Sayegh has created a suggestive total installation, together with his British colleague Alice Walter. In « XXX Kiss Cross Kill » they examine the fragmentary, media image flows and technologies of our time that create, spread and manipulate them. Both work with collage, in painting and video works. Known news photos of torture glimpse in the color cascades, mixed with erotic images, rush headlines and religious symbols.

Hospital's exterior with sculpture by Austin Lee.

Gullringsbo Art Collection

Hospitalet, Danviken

The dilapidated old mental hospital in Danviken has been renovated and inaugurated as Art Hall (Open Torsd-Sönd). In the building from 1725, traces of previous activities have been left and the story has been given its own room. The Construction and Real Estate Group Gullringsbo Properties has since 2011 built up an art collection that now fills four halls with works by both Swedish and foreign artists, in widely different styles. A sculpture park is also planned here and in a former chapel Carl Kostyál Gallery has moved in.

« Sara Nilsson: Notes Towards a Life in Nature ”

Eva Livijn Art Space Tom 2/6.

The art counselor Eva Livijn makes exhibitions in her home at Karlaplan, assisted by the curator Ulrika Flink. This time Sara Nilsson’s paintings with fungi, flowers and leaves and sculptures of young women have moved in (book time at [email protected]). It is a quiet visual world but with an acute case, human dependence on the threatened nature. The artist works with biodegradable materials, in the sculptures of pulp and glue in layers in stock.
