Biggest investment – this we know about the spring budget

At the same time as the world’s stock exchanges are shaking and the uncertainty about the economy is the largest in a long time, Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M) on Tuesday will present the government’s spring budget. In total, there are approximately SEK 11.5 billion to spend on new reforms and adjustments for increased costs.

So far, the government has And the Swedish Democrats made proposals for just under SEK 8 billion. The absolute largest investment is a temporarily strengthened ROT deduction for SEK 4.3 billion. The hope is that it will lead to more people choosing to start renovations of, for example, kitchens or holiday homes. If it becomes, it benefits both the construction industry and private consumption.

« Overall, we see that this is good for getting the wheels to spin, » said Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson in connection with the proposal being presented.

Other areas that receive supplements in the spring budget are the vocational college and vocational adult, road maintenance and the Prison and Probation Service.

Before the budget day has The government about 3.5 billion left to spend. However, the money that remains will not go to any major bets, but instead is used to adjust for different cost increases that have arisen. For example, rising unemployment means that the cost of the unemployment benefit and wage guarantees is increasing.

The largest financial investments are also not included in the spring budget. The government and SD have announced that they want to borrow SEK 300 billion to renovate the Swedish defense, but it is a cost that will be handled later on. The support for Ukraine is also outside the budget and paid through borrowed money.

The government justifies the defense initiative that the security policy situation has severely deteriorated with the war in Ukraine and how the new US administration handles the situation.

« We see a great deal of uncertainty in the transatlantic relationship and that uncertainty will last a long time, » Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said at a press conference at the end of March.

Concerns in the financial market make companies and private individuals more careful.

President Donald Trumps Spirit also hover over other economic considerations that the government is now facing. Right now it is uneasy in the financial markets and both companies and private individuals are expected to be careful with consumption and investment. The government will therefore adjust its forecast for Swedish growth and also sees a risk of increased unemployment.

But there will be no direct incentives for households right now. However, the government prepares measures for the autumn budget to support households. The wish list includes, among other things, lowering income taxes to gain momentum for consumption and raising the child allowance. However, no further increases in health insurance or unemployment insurance fund are to be expected.
