Big fire in Dubai: Burning 67 floors, nearly 4,000 people evacuated
A huge fire has hit a 67 -storey skyscraper in Dubai, forcing authorities to evacuate nearly 4,000 people – the Hallez Times reported.
Hundreds of tenants said fire alarms were not functioning and that they only learned about the fire when they felt smoke or were notified by friends.
Thick smoke filled the stairs, forcing many to use lifts to get out of the building. Some tenants spent the night outdoors before finding accommodation. A 24th-floor tenant told the media: « I was with my wife when at about 9.45pm we smelled like something that was burning. We checked in the apartment, but we didn’t find anything. We saw firefighters and people out of the balcony.

– The stairs were full of smoke, so we used a lift that worked. The wife got sick of the smoke. We waited for 45 minutes before we went to the hotel. Later we saw a flame on the higher floors. It was frightening – he added.
Another 28th floor stated that the fire alarm did not turn on at all. – We found out an hour later through a message from a friend. The stairs and lobby were full of smoke. Without the help of people, we might not have come out, « he told local media.
Tenants have expressed outrage over non -functioning security systems in the building.
