Big and small publishes Czech author Teresa Shiklova’s picture books giant / day

Giant There is a philosophical picture story whose hero is a particularly slow giant – one day lasts a whole four seasons. He wakes up in the spring and goes to bed in the winter, moving high above people, living on his own rules. The giant wants to destroy things that are important to people, but he himself sees the human city in a hurry.

The book invites you to slow down the pace of life and observe the world with the giant gaze, while developing the idea of ​​comparing different scales and the resulting differences. Giant Highlights the value of slowness, reflection and watching, contrary to the superficiality of the rapid life.

Tereza Shiklova (Tereza Shiklová1996) is the author and illustrator of the Czechs, whose works are characterized by a laconic, philosophical view and a subtle balance of images and texts. Giant is her first job available in Latvian.

The poet Ingmar Balode (1981) has been awarded the translator of the 20th and 21st century Polish poetry and prose, and also translates from English, Russian, Czech and Macedonian. He has studied at the Latvian Academy of Culture in Master’s and PhD, and has been a lecturer of this university since 2015. The translator is the winner of the International John Baltville Awards and other literary prizes.

The adaptation of the book was created by Una Laukmane.

Books Giant Issuing is part of the project implemented by the publishing house Children’s Europe, who received support in the EU program Creative Europe. During this project, 15 books will be translated and published in Latvian.

The publication of the book is also co -financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
