Bieszczady. The tourist was crawling for two hours to call for help
According to GOPR rescuers, the injury has already occurred around 19.00. Unfortunately, in the place where the injured was located, there was no GSM network range.
The tourist was crawling for over two hours, seeking help, then he was helped by the Goprowers from the Bieszczady Mountains
The man, despite the huge pain, was crawling to find a point from which he could contact with emergency number. Only after over two hours, around 21.40, he managed to make a connection, which – due to the location – was picked up by the operator in Ukraine. Information about the event then went to the Operational and Coordination Center of the State Service for Extraordinary Situations in the Lviv region, and from there to the GOPR central station in Sanok.
But that’s not all. The tourist also managed to send an SMS to a friend who informed the Krynicka group GOPR. Thanks to this, the notification reached rescuers from two independent sources.
Rescuers from Ustrzyki Górne arrived at around 23.30. The sight they found there, he frozen blood in his veins – the tourist was soaked, chilled, in a state of hypothermia and struggled with a serious trauma of the ankle. After heating and securing the injury, tedious evacuation began.
First, the man was transported in a stretcher to the Rozpaniec region, and from there he was transported to Wołosate. Finally, at 02.19, the injured person hit his hands ambulance in Sanok. The action, in which eight rescuers participated, ended only at 4am.
Rescuers have no doubt – if the man did not reach the place where he could call for help, he could not survive that night. This is another proof of the importance of proper preparation for mountain expeditions and awareness of threats that can be lurking for tourists.
« We have no doubt – if the tourist did not reach the place where he could call for help, he could not survive that night. We do not assess this situation – we publish it as a warning » – they wrote on their social networking site Goprowcy from the Bieszczady Mountains.
