Bicycle paths to improve
Bicycle infrastructure in Krakow has been developing continuously for years, but many of the solutions used once did not survive the test of time. The residents themselves drew attention to cyclists dangerous to cyclists. This is how a bicycle infrastructure improvement program was created. It is run by the Presidential Bicycle Team in cooperation with the Road Administration of the City of Krakow. The program budget specifies a special pool of funds, which is intended for the liquidation of faults and equalizing the journeys.
– Inventory of the most necessary corrections was carried out by representatives of the social side of the bicycle team. The inspiration to create a list of the most important journeys was the project submitted to the civic budget. 100 points on bicycle paths were shown, which are the most burdensome for cyclists during everyday riding – says Jarosław Tarański, Velomałopolska bicycle expert.
Asphalt patches are poured on bicycle roads qualified after improvement. They level the spaces between the edges of the road, thanks to which the cyclist drives through them without shocks and strokes. In this way, 16 journeys were leveled in the last quarter of the year.
This year, corrections will cover another 40 places. Works have already been planned on ul. Brożka, at the crossings at ul. Borsucza and ul. Brick. Then the teams will improve bicycle paths on ul. Pawiej at the Polytechnic, al. Armii Krajowej, ul. Wybickiego, ul. Reymonta and ul. Bulwarowa.
– The key was to develop effective and economical methods of improving journeys. Thanks to them, the city can implement corrections in an optimal way and at the same time lasted – says Piotr Trzepak from the Road Administration of the City of Krakow.
