Bicycle accident is abruptly ending the lives of beloved Johny (50): « There is a great void behind it » (Zwijndrecht)

Vrasenaar Johny Winters died on Monday from the effects of a fateful fall with the bike a day before. He leaves a woman, four children and two plus children. « He would have liked to see everywhere and was ready for everyone to help, » says his brother Kurt. He even does that after his death, because the family decided to donate his organs. « That’s how he would have wanted it, » it sounds.
The accident happened on Sunday shortly after a family meeting in the Oude Dorpsstraat in Vrasene. On the way back home, Johny crashed into an open door of a parked car by bike and fell unhappy. « His parents drove the car behind him and were quick, » says Kurt. An ambulance rushed to the scene and the man was brought to the hospital in critical condition. There he died one day after the facts from the effects of a skull fracture and brain haemorrhage.
For his family, the loss is heartbreaking. « He enjoyed life and his family. The loss comes much too early and leaves a huge void, » says the family. Johny had four children from his first marriage: Jordy (25), Joeri (24), Jonas (21) and Amy (16). Ten years ago he met Esmeralda, whom he married in 2017. Together they formed a new family with her two children.
Organ donation
Johny was described by his environment as a warm and social person. « He really knew everyone in the village, » says Kurt. For example, he was active for years at football club KFC Vrasene. There he started as a youth player and was involved in the board. Also at football club KSK Klinge, where his sons are active, is groped for him. « Johny was always ready for others, » Kurt describes his brother. He does that after his death, because the family decided to donate his organs. « That’s how he would have wanted, » it sounds.
Outrage
At his work at the municipality of Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht, where he is active as at the Cemeteries Service, the loss of their valued colleague is hard. Mayor Marc van de Vijver (we, together strong) responds. « Johny was a very enthusiastic and engaging man, » he says. « It’s a tough loss. My thoughts are with the family and friends in this difficult period. »
The family also blames the driver of the car, whose porter Johny bumped, nothing. « This was brutal bad luck, » says Kurt. « It was an accident that no one could have foreseen. The woman herself is very impressed by the facts. She even got threats, and we find that really unacceptable. »
