« Between love and literature » presents the personal correspondence of Elijah Volen
The book « Between Love and Literature », dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of foulette and playwright Iliya Volen, will be presented May 14 at 6 pm in the Egg Hall at the Rectorate, Sofia University announced on its website. He is the publisher « Literary Forum » and the compiler is the linguist Hristo Stamenov, son of Elijah Volen.
The book, which has an impressive volume of over 700 pages, gathered all the correspondence the writer with his wife. This is a documentary epistolary love novel against the backdrop of the 1930s and 1940s, according to the publishing house.
« This is a long correspondence led between my father and my mother between 1936 and 1944. These letters are first and foremost personal and very intimate. To take it on display – it was not very easy. Even if I read these letters for the first time, it was a shock and a very strong personal experience, » Stamenov said. |

According to Prof. Lyudmil Dimitrov – one of the inspirations of the book, it is not just the epistolary heritage of Volen – it can find evidence and facts constructing unfamiliar and not quite popular picture of Bulgarian literature and culture from the said periods of the public, the leaders and the actors who are ejected and the actors, consistent theaters, critics and university professors, etc.
Elijah Volen (Marin Stamenov) was born on October 13, 1905 in the village of Uglen, Lovech District. He studied in his home village and then in Lukovit. Since 1924, he has begun to write about Boyan Danovsky’s edited magazine Dionysios. He also publishes stories at Anton Strashimirov’s Vedrina weekly. During these years, he received his nickname.
After 1944 he worked at the Bulgarian Writer Publishing House and Septemvri magazine.
