Benfica targets disciplinary proceedings for criticism of arbitration
The Portuguese Football Federation (CD) Council (CD) (FPF) filed a disciplinary process to Benfica, due to the criticism made to the arbitration in the game that was tied with Arouca (2-2) of the 29th round of I Liga.
The action is opened after a participation of the Portuguese Association of Football Referees (APAF).
It is recalled that Benfica, on April 13, issued a statement in which he expressed “deep concern” with the work of arbitration teams on the 29th round of the I Liga, alluding to the ‘incarnated’ draw with Sporting and the victory of Sporting in Santa Clara’s land (0-1), results that returned the lions in the lead of the championship, with the same points as the eagles.
« In the Azores, a clear penalty against Sporting was ignored. In Luz, a nonexistent penalty was marked against Benfica. It is required competence and rigor in the remaining journeys until the end of the championship. The sporting truth of the competition cannot be distorted by bad arbitration decisions, especially when there is a videobreen (VAR), whose mission is to avoid rude errors. » of the club of Luz.
For four days of the end of the time, Benfica is currently in second place in the I Liga, with 72 points, the same as Sporting, which has the advantage in direct confrontation and the difference of goals. On May 10, penultimate round, there is Lisbon derby.
