In Brussels, six members of a criminal organization were convicted who had obtained rare medicines through forged regulations. These medicines are reserved for cancer patients, among others. The products were subsequently resold for big money abroad.
The gang would have earned a total of more than 100,000 euros on the social security cap. « A large -scale judicial investigation preceded this, » says the Brussels public prosecutor’s office. « That led to the dismantling of a criminal organization that had pharmacies throughout Belgium. »
The research showed that the suspects had copied hundreds of false electronic regulations, obtaining rare medicines that are reserved for patients with severe pathologies such as diabetes and cancer.
« Those medicines are fully repaid by the social security via the third -party payment arrangement and are highly sought after by criminal networks. Then they were sent to be resold abroad, » the public prosecutor reports.
Up to 4 years in prison
« Thanks to the investigation, six suspects who prosecuted the Brussels public prosecutor could be prosecuted for the correctional court for bend formation, forgery, use of false documents, scam and infringement of the coordinated law of 10 May 2015 on the exercise of the health care professions. »
The case recently came before the correctional court, which sentenced six defendants to penalties of 3 to four 4 years in prison, whether or not linked to a partial postponement. In addition, the court also declared 105,822.81 euros forfeited, money that the gang would have earned with the trade in medication. A Mercedes-Benz that was used for the facts was also forfeited.
