The terraced house on the Leuvensesteenweg was struck by a blazing fire.
Brand broke out just before midnight on Friday evening in a terraced house on the Leuvensesteenweg in Muizen (Mechelen). Nobody was injured. The residents – a family of two thirties and three children – were taken to the hospital for a medical check.
The emergency call came in around 11.50 pm at the Rivierenland fire brigade zone. Both the Mechelen and Rumst post came to the scene. Initially it was mentioned that there was still a victim in the house, but luckily that turned out not to be the case.
« The residents could leave the home themselves, » says Dirk van de Sande, spokesperson for the Rivierenland police zone. « The adjacent homes remained protected, but did get smoke in. The fire brigade was still taking after tiles. Probably the residents of those homes can go home again. »

The fire found the ground floor of the house in the first place and pulled up like this. The affected building is uninhabitable. There is a lot of smoke and soot damage. The residents can probably go to family. The cause of the fire is probably accidental. The lab will be on site for research on Saturday.
Already fourth fire in a short time
The Leuvensesteenweg was closed in both directions for a while during the intervention of the fire brigade. Before the roadway was completely released again, there was a while still possible.
It is already the fourth fire in Mechelen in barely ten days that a family affects. The houses of a bakers family in Hombeek and two other families in Mechelen-Zuid also became uninhabitable after a fire.
