Beijing: US seeks talks with China on Trump’s customs
The United States has addressed China with a 145 % request for talks introduced by incumbent President Donald Trump. China’s position is consistent – if forced to fight, China will fight to the end, and the door is open for talks, a spokesman for the Trade Ministry said in a statement.
The US side, according to Beijing, should show « sincerity » and abandon one -sided customs, while recognizing the need to correct « wrong » trading practices.
« Attempts to use the dialogue as an excuse for coercion and blackmail will not succeed, » the statement said.
China has publicly expressed its anger because of the high customs, claiming they cannot stop the growth of the world’s second -largest economy.
US officials, including Finance Minister Scott Bellen and White House Economic Adviser Kevin Hasset also expressed hope that it would soon make progress in reducing trade tensions.
« China wants to discuss trade, and those talks will happen soon, » Secretary of State Marko Rubio told Fox News, adding that the United States is considering how much they will need to buy from China in the future.
Trump, meanwhile, said two days ago that there was a « very good chance » for a deal with China.
Chinese President Si Jinping has called for adaptation to new global conditions, but has not mentioned the United States.
