Six years ago, in 2018, the Government resolution was transferred to the Palanga Municipality to manage the territory of Šventoji port.

Already in 2019 The municipality participated in a project funded by the European Union. The Ministry of Agriculture received 1.7 euros in the Šventoji port to install infrastructure for fishermen.

« But of course, that money was not enough. The project cost about EUR 6 million. The remaining funds were the money of the municipality, » said Palanga Mayor Šarūnas Vaitkus.

The mayor of the resort emphasized that the previous Government, together with the Ministry of Finance, mediated the European Commission to change the guidelines and the current main construction phase of the Šventoji port (the construction of the ports of the port), which is planned to be started soon, would be funded by municipal regional funds.

« In no way talk about regional funds of other municipalities, which are common. We have some of the funds we could use for the marina. In the beginning we have money for the port construction. As far as I know, the state budget is planned for some money for this, for the other and other years. » Vaitkus.

It is difficult to predict how much more money will be needed for the construction of Šventoji port. Now the municipality is preparing a technical project, followed by a clearer cost of the construction of the port.

« Obviously, the cost of construction will be lower than we would have built according to the 2015 project, as there are now newer technologies that cheaper construction. As a result, we were preparing a new technical project. In August we should get a building permit. Vaitkus.

The school building is expected to obtain a building permit in June -July. The building will be built by Palanga budget, and next year it is planned to complete it and transfer it to the Sailing School « Winter », which is also part of the Palanga municipality.

It is stated that the demand for the sailing school is relevant to the entire Klaipeda region, and this was emphasized by the mayors of Klaipėda region and the Lithuanian Sailing Union.

Useful for shore management decisions

« All studies have been performed to state that Palanga beaches will be positive because the sand migrates from north to south. Both Latvia and Šventoji beaches themselves are significantly wider than Palanga. We will be able to supplement Palanga beaches.

In recent years, the beaches at the Palanga Bridge have been complemented by sand from Neringa quarries, which was brought in barge. And that is quite expensive.

Will replace the settlement itself

According to the mayor of Palanga, the life of the Šventoji settlement will change fundamentally with the port of the port.

« After the first phase of the work, the municipality, if I am not mistaken, has issued four permits for the construction of hotels and spa centers in Šventoji, which has never been yet. Especially the object of the state – Būtingė Oil Terminal – is nearby. Thus, the emergence of Šventoji port will be expected to attract more investment in the Holy One.

Briefly about the construction of the Holy Seaport:

2015 In August, a technical project for the construction and dredging of the Sventoji State Seaport Infrastructure and the Aquaire with six building permits was prepared.

Šventoji State Seaport – Lithuanian Seaport in Šventoji settlement, by the Šventoji River. It is owned by the State of Lithuania, the founder of the port – Palanga City Municipality, which determines the boundaries of the port land, aquaties and reserve territories on the proposal of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

Purpose of the port: serving recreational, small and sports ships, fishing ships.

In the future, with the installation of sea clay, serve small sea cruise and Ro-ro passenger ships, serve ships of the State Border Guard Service of the Republic of Lithuania, specialized rescue, spilled oil collection, fire and marine environment, shipping and fishing control, other state institutions, serve Būtinga Oil Terminal Auxiliary Navy, trading.
