Become another passenger. Exhibition review / day of artist Viktor Timofeyev’s exhibition

On the new exhibition of Victor Timofeyev Other passengers can look at least three. According to my observations, the first type is likely to be rational -minded people suffering from lack of time, as is due to this information age. The second will be chosen by people who also suffer from lack of time, but in addition to the desire to break the time, trying to unravel the maze of a specially dreamed thought. The third approach, on the other hand, will be chosen by joy and carefree people we become on holiday trips when we need to take a picture on every interesting background.

Cuddling

In this way, the Latvian National Museum of Art (LNMM) 4th floor viewers can conclude that the most common are the third – the photo -drizzle – because not only are they faster than the rest of the cloud, but also sitting in the train installation seats without noticing the sticker. Pierced leaves. Meanwhile, first -time visitors – rational – are becoming skeptical and disappointed, already through three exhibition premises and finding that the loud application of the exhibition « (..) will be held in the larger Latvian artist Viktor Timofeyev, who lives so far in New York. Only a few stage designers have been exhibited and the sound landscape created in collaboration with the Lithuanian artist Mishs Skalski, a Lithuanian artist in Finland.

The main winners are undoubtedly the second – those visitors who, like me for some reason, begin to go into the artist’s procession and accept the challenge of mentioning his bars. In this path, associative perceptions are first helped, which allows you to intuitively recognize the signs of art and cultural history. For example, the elements painted by the exhibit appear close to the metaphysical painting of the early 20th century, a dreamy atmosphere created by a strange light without an understandable source and irrational prospects of houses. In addition, a mirage -like tower -painted tower in the middle of the largest room makes you feel like a literally boarded George de Kiriko painting Red tower (1913). You can get to the tower by walking around the clouds, because the artist used the transparent floor of the museum hall to be surprisingly witty – he cut the cloud holes in the white linoleum. They can be given to the visitors of the Lower Stock, who, without realizing this espionage, turn peacefully to the works of art.

This scene recalls Viktor Timofeyev’s artistic experiments with a micro -scale enclosed area, allowing the observer to feel a bit like God. At the same time, literal walking in the clouds causes an existentially labil feeling that will increase suspicion of such as a trip, or psychedelic experience. Violation from one world in another is confirmed by the ongoing tower – through its eaves, you can watch a minivilla passing along the surreal house’s floors in the desert landscape – but in the next room you have to get in the coupe of this train and look at the house painted inside the window.

The future today

Interestingly, the two exposure spaces that have been transformed into the coupe are symmetrical as each other’s opposite mirrors that reflect each other. Only the clock projected in the oval boxes of both rooms is different. It is known that the clock is a spacious, culture -often -played symbol, which has also become a beloved art element of Victor Timofeyev – he is already familiar with the timber -made, where the alphabet or other self -invented sign system is working (occasionally changing).

The symmetricality and clock motif of the visitor associations (the visitor himself has become « other passenger ») is moving to another hundred -year -old cultural phenomenon, namely John Danna’s dream theory, or so -called serialism. His book Experiment with time In the 20th century, the future notions were strongly influenced, making the idea that the future exists today and at least two measurements may be possible for a person – one person lives, but the other is watching and traveling in time, but it only happens when the intellect does not press consciousness, first of all.

The dream of awakening from a different dream in a dream, telling the story is motives that have been passionately played, such as Argentinian writer Horhe Louis Borhess. Apparently, Victor Timofeyev, who works every day with computer games and video games and overcomes long distances between the city’s big cities, is close to the possible semantics of the worlds. Curator Andris Silapeter, on the other hand, has directed the vision of the virtual reality of the artist to a social critical view, which ironically votes on the division of a public society, living in parallel worlds.

Exhibition Other passengers There seems to be a great example of how to create a specific art for a place, with a ingestion of the environmental features available, and in the dialogue with the architecture of the museum and the cultural values of the past to share their fully personal issues, thoughts and feelings.
