It becomes easier to go to work as a Flemish civil servant if you do not have the right diplomas. There will be a « level test » that gives you access to the application procedure.

Now it is already possible to apply if you do have the right competencies, but not the right diploma. But that is only possible after you have received a « admission ticket » from the VDAB. However, that system is far too cumbersome. To give you an idea: it was applied barely eleven times last year.

The Flemish government has now approved a new procedure. With every recruitment procedure there will now be a « level test » at the level of the vacancy. Those who succeed can apply for two years at vacancies of the same level.

« As an employer, the Flemish government wants to play a pioneering role, » says Flemish Minister for Administrative Affairs Hilde Crevits (CD&V). « In times of a shortage on the labor market, it is no longer justified that they miss out on good profiles because they do not have the right diploma. We are now taking that threshold away and give every opportunity to recruit the best person. »

For regulated professions such as surveyor, doctor or nurse, you will of course still have to be able to submit a diploma.
