Bavonatal cut off again due to heavy rains

For months, access to the Bavonatal was closed after violent storms. Now a visit is advised again. But despite the tense situation, confidence in the valley predominates.

It was the day of the breath: Last Saturday, the street opened again into the Bavonatal. The scree masses and boulders are still on the meadows next to the street near Fontana, Bosco and Mondada. The storm’s force, which triggered severe misery nine months ago and demanded eight fatalities, is still present.

But that Saturday, optimism in the suffering valley prevailed: the restaurants prepared for the guests, cooked Polenta and Brasato, and cleaned their terraces for the tourists. And Wanda Dadò, the mayor of the municipality of Cevio, who is also responsible for the area of ​​the Bavonatal, told Italian -speaking television RSI: «This moment is very emotional. We, the inhabitants of this valley, have a great need to return to normality. » The opening of the provisional road from Cavergno to Sancarlo at the end of the valley is the first step back to this normality.
