Figures from the Regional Police Academy Brussels show that the success rate for the basic police inspector training, for candidates who have received support from the Legrage Orientation Center (OR), is not higher than 1 percent. Prime Minister Rudi Vervoort replied this on Tuesday in the Interior Committee of the Brussels Parliament to a question from Aline Godfrin (MR).

She interviewed the resigning government leader about the recruitment and training policy for new Brussels police officers and other security professions. To help motivated candidates in their entrance exam for the police, previous training modules were offered, not by the regional administration Brusafe, but by two non -profit organizations, Cefig and Syntra Bizz). But the results were so sad that the policy was simply stopped.

The outgoing Brussels government decided in May 2024 to integrate an ordinance Brusafe and its missions into Safe.Brussels. There is no mention of orientation and recruitment, but in practice there is no longer any question of the previous education by the two non -profit organizations because of the « very meager bilan » of the measure, Rudi Vervoort recognized Tuesday.

The previous education in the recruitment of firefighters hardly scored better. Of the 161 candidates who followed the previous education, hardly 21 succeeded for the federal competence certificate for firefighters.

For Aline Godfrin, the failed policy choice of the outgoing government has led to « five wasted years, while more Brussels police officers need to be recruited to know the neighborhoods ».

Vincent Houssin from police union VSOA was never in favor of such pre -training for police officers. « It is unfortunate for the money that is put in that project, but unfortunately it has never been discussed with us. With that money they would better ensure that the job becomes more attractive so that it lures more skilled agents. »

The philosophy behind the previous education is to attract younger people faster to become a police officer. « But the results make it clear that the success rate remains very small. We note that many candidates do not succeed in the personality tests, you can’t just change that into one, two, three. » The trade union argues that more investments in the attractiveness of the profession to become a police officer.
