According to state media reports, as of Sunday evening, fires continued to flash in different parts of the affected area, and helicopters and firefighters continued to extinguish them.
On Sunday morning, the head of the Iranian Society of the Red Crescent reported to the state media that the fire had been extinguished by 90%, and officials stated that the port activity had been restored in the unharmed parts of the Shahids of Rejaja.
It is suspected that the cause of the explosion was chemicals in the port, but the exact cause was not established.
Iran’s Ministry of Defense has denied international media reports that the explosion could be associated with improper handling of solid fuel used in rockets. The ministry spokesman stated to state television that these reports were « consistent with hostile psychology », stating that the territory on which the explosion occurred did not contain any military cargo.
The Associated Press, citing the British security firm Ambrey, reported that in March the port received the sodium perchlorat, which is used to moving ballistic missiles and improper treatment with which could lead to the explosion.
The Financial Times reported in January about the sending of two Iranian vessels from China, which contained a sufficient amount of ingredient to moving 260 medium -range missiles, helping Tehran to replenish their stocks after direct missile attacks on Israel in 2024.
