Baldness medicine can cause suicidal thoughts
Infarmed warned on Friday that medicines containing the finally grounded substance, used for baldness in men, can cause suicidal thoughts. The authority asked those who use them to stop taking mood swings and consult a doctor.
A note available this Friday on the site, the National Authority of Medicine and Health Products reports that risk assessment committee in pharmacovigilance of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has recommended measures to minimize the risk of suicidal thoughts of medicines containing finasteride and ductasterid.
These medications are used in cases of prostate benign hyperplasia.
Infarmed states that suicidal thoughts were confirmed as an undesirable effect of the drug containing finasteride (in tablets), but no direct connection with ductasterid drugs was found.
Thus, it warns that finasteride drugs in tablets can cause depressive humor, depression or suicidal thoughts and ask those who are using them to, feel mood changes, stop taking them and contact the assistant doctor for counseling.
The authority also warns that in some patients who take finasteride (1 mg compresses), problems with sexual function (such as less desire to have sex, difficulty having an erection and problems with ejaculation) can contribute to mood swings, including suicidal thoughts.
